Hi Reader, I’ve always hated looking for an agent. Historically it’s felt like a Jell-O salad of rejection, confusion, wasted time, and unpaid emotional cardio… garnished with shaved carrots and despair. So when I suddenly found myself without a theatrical agent after a decade, my managers gently prepared me for the possibility that I might be agentless for a while. A reasonable assessment in this climate in Hollywood in which there are approximately four jobs and Nicole Kidman has three of them. Two of them are verticals. And one is a podcast adaptation of Fast & Furious -- because you know...cars. On a podcast. 👍🏼 Except… that’s not what happened. Within two months, I had 12 theatrical agents meetings in Los Angeles and signed with my top choice boutique agency. ✍🏽 I break down exactly how I made this happened in my new video: Agentless to Signed in 3 Weeks 12 Agent Meetings Want the CliffsNotes version? SUMMARY: A smart email outreach strategy got agents to open my email. 📧 But Casting DNA™ is what made them interested once they looked at my materials. Because you can reach out to the entire universe, but if your materials aren't AMAZING, then you'll be licking your wounds and eating green Jell-O - agentless.... Most demo reels are built from whatever footage happens to come along, which in some ways makes sense because this is how actors have done it for years. But truthfully, unless you're blessed with Timothée Chalamet's career trajectory, then this random potpourri of demo clips actually produces a string of materials that feel random instead of intentional. Like that patchwork Amish quilt your mother found at the swap meet at the YMCA in Topeka. Not wrong. Just… really not RIGHT. Not aligned. Not firing on all cylinders to communicate who you are and what you can f*ing do. Inside Casting DNA™, we flip that. We identify your casting prototypes, then source material that actually telegraphs them clearly, while also clearly showing your acting chops and what you're made of. From there, we polish the scenes with real inner architecture and human contradiction so the result isn’t just “more footage.” It’s footage that tells the industry: This is who I am. This is what I play. I can do this extremely well. And when that’s obvious, the industry suddenly has a much easier time imagining you as a series regular on a Netflix Series. That’s when things get interesting. If you’re curious what your materials might actually be communicating right now, I built a quick Casting DNA™ Pre-Check tool that lets actors run a diagnostic on their materials. You can try it for free: Try Casting DNA™ Pre-Check ✅ And if you’re ready to go deeper, there are currently 9 spots left in the Casting DNA™ Signature Scene Cohort:
Adria PS. If your demo reel is currently a random pu pu platter of roles you happened to book along the way, don’t worry -- we fix that in Casting DNA™. (If this newsletter was forwarded to you by a friend, you can subscribe here) |
