Dear Reader, I almost didn’t email this week. My first impulse was to stay quiet — because anything I might say felt trite compared to what’s happening in the world right now. Silence can feel safer than saying the wrong thing. But I decided to write anyway. Because isolation is what keeps us powerless. And connection — real, human connection — is how we remember our strength. In moments like this, what moves people isn’t more information. It’s emotion. It’s story. It’s being reminded that we’re not alone, and that what we do (or don’t do) matters. Moving people emotionally is the most powerful way to communicate, and the most powerful way to move the world toward progress. That’s true in art. It’s true in leadership. It’s true in how we show up at work, in our families, and in our communities. This isn’t about having the perfect take or knowing exactly what to do. It’s about refusing numbness. It’s about staying awake and human when the world keeps trying to harden us. If you’re speaking up right now — imperfectly, thoughtfully, quietly — that matters. If you’re pausing because you’re overwhelmed, that also matters. We’re stronger in numbers, even when all we’re doing is witnessing together. If you feel called toward collective action, this is one place people are organizing: If grounding, education, or direct support feels more urgent, here are places I trust: Grounding & mental health • NAMI • Open Path Psychotherapy • ACLU • RAICES No pressure to be perfect or have it all figured out. Staying human is not passive. It’s powerful. Adria |
