Hi Reader, So much of being an actor is waiting. Waiting for auditions.... Waiting for the role that finally shows your range.... Waiting for footage that actually captures what you can do.... Maybe even waiting on tables....(If you can even get a job doing that in this town!) But something really interesting happens when actors stop waiting. And start creating their own material. Today, instead of re-explaining this concept in theory, I thought it would be more useful to show you some real results. One of my actors, Lisa Su, and I recently shot two demo reel scenes designed to optimize her Actors Access profile for the Agent campaign she was doing this month. Lisa kindly gave me permission to share this scene with you, and I’m honestly so proud of the work she did here. It captures something really essential about Lisa as an actor: her intelligence, her strength, and the quiet power she brings on camera. 🎬 Watch Lisa’s scene here ↓ This kind of material gives casting -- and the industry -- a much clearer sense of what Lisa can really do. What I love about this piece is how clearly it captures the kind of energy Lisa brings to her work — smart, grounded, and just a little dangerous. Ok...maybe kind of a lot dangerous. This isn’t random demo reel footage. It’s strategic storytelling about who Lisa is onscreen. And when actors do this well, something powerful happens. Agents and Casting can see it immediately. And that's what we want. ✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨ In my next email, I’ll share the second scene Lisa and I filmed, because everyone loves a sequel, right? But also so I can show you the exact two scenes we chose and why. Because the goal isn’t just to shoot great scenes. The goal is to create undeniable footage that makes the industry instantly understand who you are on screen. If you’d like help doing this for your own materials, that’s exactly what we’re building inside the Casting DNA™ Signature Scene Cohort. Ten actors.
Till then, Adria P.S. Tomorrow I’ll send the second scene we shot with Lisa, and explain why pairing these two pieces is what really makes the strategy work. (If this newsletter was forwarded to you by a friend, you can subscribe here) |
